Matt Shutzer | Modernizing the ‘Feudal’ Economy? Geology and Development Planning in Princely India, 1920s-1940s

My work engages conceptual questions of decolonization, the developmental state, and competitiveness in the global economy. This paper presents technological and environmental dynamics of these issues as they reshaped the political borders of western Odisha and Chhattisgarh in an area called the Eastern States Agency.
