Gallatin Global Writers: Meena Kandasamy | Co-sponsored event with NYU Gallatin

Meena Kandasamy, Gallatin’s Global Faculty in Residence, combines her love for the written word with the struggle for social justice through poetry, translation, fiction, and essays. Her latest novel, When I Hit You: Or, The Portrait of the Writer As A Young Wife (Atlantic, 2017), a work of autofiction exploring poetry, the dark heart of language, French feminist philosophy, and leftist discourse to lift the veil on the silence surrounding domestic violence and marital rape in India, was chosen as a book of the year by The GuardianThe Daily TelegraphFinancial Times, and The Observer and was shortlisted for the 2018 Women’s Prize for Fiction. She is also the author of the novel The Gypsy Goddess (Atlantic Books, London/4th Estate HarperCollins India, 2014) and two collections of poems, Touch (Peacock Books Mumbai, 2006) and Ms Militancy (New Dehli, Navayana Publishers, 2010).
Ritty Lukose will introduce the event and moderate a discussion.
Gallatin Global Writers is an annual Writing Program event that highlights contemporary international authors and explores the diverse literary traditions and cultures from which their writing arises. This event is co-sponsored by SouthAsiaNYU.
