Abstract: This paper looks at the relationship between privatization and economic nationalism in India. Since the period of reform in the early nineties, both major parties in India have espoused a policy of privatization, however, the INC has also argued for economic liberalization, while the BJP has maintained an overall nationalist economic policy. This paper will argue that economic nationalism among the electorate is what has driven support for privatization, as opposed to a belief that liberal economic reforms will benefit the individual voters.
